Stuff to do this weekend: 40 things near you
plans don't die because people are busy. they die because nobody wants to pick. so here's the stuff to do this weekend, already picked: house parties, open mics, pottery, box cricket, hikes.

it's friday, 6:40pm. someone in the group chat types "kya scene hai weekend ka?"
three people reply "haan kuch karte hain." someone sends a reel. nobody suggests an actual plan. by saturday afternoon the chat has gone quiet and you're on the couch, rewatching a show you've already seen twice.
we've been in that chat too. so here's the stuff to do this weekend we wish someone had sent us: 40 things to do, plus where to find events near you, sorted by who you're with, what you want to spend and the weather. at the end there's a message for your group chat that actually gets replies (skip to it).
the short version
the best stuff to do this weekend: a house party, a pottery class, an open mic, box cricket, a quiz night, a sunrise hike or a small café gig. pick whichever is closest and send the plan before 8pm tonight.
hosting instead? here's how to host a house party that people actually show up to.
40 things to do this weekend, sorted in 10 seconds¶
two questions, and you've got a plan:

pick by who is coming, then by budget or mood.
Stuff to do this weekend with friends¶

the lopsided bowl is the whole point.
for the group that's been saying "next weekend pakka" since march. one rule: do something, don't just hang out. doing something gives you a story you'll still bring up in december.
- pottery or clay workshop. someone will make a terrible bowl. it will live on their shelf for years.
- open mic night. whoever says "i could do that" signs up next time.
- box cricket. the friend who "doesn't really play" always ends up bowling the most overs.
- quiz night at a café. find out who actually reads the news and who just nods along.
- flea market challenge. ₹300 each, 45 minutes. best find wins, worst find buys chai.
- street food trail. one lane, five stalls, share every plate, fight about the rankings.
- karaoke night. one person always takes it too seriously. be that person.
- sunrise hike, then breakfast. the alarm feels like a crime. the view doesn't.
- one-ingredient cook-off. everyone brings one surprise ingredient. dinner happens anyway.
- sip-and-sketch session. nobody can paint. that's the fun.
- board game café. four hours can vanish into one round of catan.

turf booked, stumps up. now just get ten people to reply.
tag the friend who says "haan chalte hain" and then goes quiet.
What to do this weekend alone¶

going alone isn't the same as being lonely.
going alone isn't the same as being lonely. maybe your friends are busy, or you're new in town and still figuring out who your people are. either way, solo stuff to do this weekend is easier than it sounds.
the hard part is the first five minutes. four rules that help:
- 01. you can leave after 20 minutes. most people stay anyway.
- 02. keep your hands busy. nobody expects small talk while you're shaping clay.
- 03. small is good. six people is a full house.
- 04. say one thing to one person. anything more is a bonus.
- a hands-on workshop. pottery, painting, baking. the activity does the talking.
- run club. around kilometre two, a conversation starts on its own.
- yoga or dance class. everyone is bad at the new move together. instant icebreaker.
- silent book club. talking is optional. it happens anyway.
- volunteer at an animal shelter. the dogs don't care that you came alone.
- a small hosted event. a good host makes sure nobody sits alone in the corner.
- a solo day trip. bus to the next town, eat somewhere new, come back with a story.
- a sunset spot with a book. you're not doing nothing. you're watching the sunset.
tip: go back to the same small thing. by the third time, someone saves you a seat.
Live music and open mics this weekend¶

small café sets beat big concerts if you want to meet people.
the easiest weekend plan there is, with the gang or alone: nobody has to talk during the set. our full guide to live music near you → covers open mics, sufi nights, jams and how to go alone.
- acoustic set at a small café. close enough to hear yourself think between songs.
- jam session. bring an instrument or just your ears. the friendliest rooms in any city.
- rooftop sunset set. golden hour plus one guitar is hard to beat.
- music open mic. find out the quiet guy from your office can actually sing.
- a local band's small gig. follow three venues near you on instagram and you'll never run out of plans.
open mic and sufi nights coming up at morgan's place, dharamkot: see the dates →
Budget friendly stuff to do this weekend near me¶

a flask, a friend, a sunset. total cost: one chai.
for the end-of-month weekend. none of this costs more than a round of chai.
- sunrise or sunset point. every city has one. bring chai in a steel flask.
- park picnic. everyone brings one thing. one speaker, low volume.
- heritage walk. many cities run free ones on weekend mornings.
- long bookstore browse. no pressure to buy.
- local market walk. no list. eat whatever smells best.
- a free event near you. workshops, jams, screenings. the free ones are usually the friendliest.
- host something yourself. a chess morning or a sunday run. do it once and people ask when the next one is. (hosting on gigavent takes a few minutes, and your first events are free.)
Rainy saturday? Indoor plans that work¶

rainy weekend rule: chai first, plans later.
rain cancels plans. it doesn't have to cancel the weekend.
- chai, pakode and a movie marathon at whoever has the biggest couch.
- bowling or an arcade. everyone is terrible at air hockey.
- indoor workshop. candles, baking, painting. rain on the windows makes it cosier.
- monsoon walk. good shoes, an umbrella nobody uses, soup at the end.
- board game night at home. zero travel, maximum chaos.
Stuff to do this weekend in Dharamshala¶

triund: worth the early alarm.
our home turf, so we're biased. here's the local stuff to do this weekend we keep going back to:
- triund trek. start early to get the dhauladhar views before the crowds, and carry more water than you think. check the weather first: the trail gets slippery after rain.
- dharamkot café-hopping. slow mornings, long lunches, and sometimes a guitar in the evening.
- bhagsu waterfall walk. the waterfall is the excuse. the cafés on the way are the reason.
- naddi sunset point. get there 30 minutes early and leave your phone in your pocket.
know a spot we missed? tell us. we're a small team in dharamshala (here's who we are).
How to find events and things to do near me, every week¶

sunday yoga in the park: everyone wobbles, nobody minds.
a list works for one saturday. after that, here's where events near you actually show up:
- café instagram stories. small places post weekend plans on thursday.
- notice boards at cafés and colleges. some plans only exist on paper.
- local whatsapp groups for run clubs, treks and board game nights.
- something that sorts by distance. googling "activities near me" gets you listicles (yes, like this one). you want what's on a few kilometres away, this saturday.
that's why we built gigavent: see what's happening near you this weekend, who's going, and turn up. you won't be the only new face.
The message that actually gets replies¶

same group, same weekend, different message.
the fix is simple: send a plan, not a question. nobody has to answer "kuch karte hain?". a plan with a time and place needs a yes or no.
copy one, change the details, send:
for the group
pottery class, saturday 5pm, 10 mins from college. booking 4 spots tonight at 8. who's in?
for the friend who never commits
open mic friday at 8. i've already said you're coming. you can leave after one set if it's bad.
if you're new in town
hey! new here and trying the sunday run club at 7. anyone want to come? chai after, on me.
pick the plan first, then the people. keep it under 20 minutes away. set a deadline.
